Hi ya'll! I just heard about this group called Green Drinks. www.greendrinks.org

Basically, it's a social networking opportunity where every month people who work in the environmental field (be it in academia, NGOs, government, business) meet up for a beer at informal sessions known as Green Drinks.

If you're interested check out their website to see if there's a chapter local to you. Go to the event and just say, "are you green?" They'll look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network.

According to their website, "people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities."

Hi Paige! I've been going to the Green Drinks gatherings in the SF Bay Area for a few months and have definitely met a ton of great people this way. Different chapters have different ways of doing things. The one I go to is pretty casual, but the one in Chicago sounds like it is crazy organized!

Another good event is EcoTuesday. This is another monthly event. It started in San Francisco and now has meet-ups in Los Angeles, Marin/North Bay (of San Francisco), Minneapolis, and Seattle. They're looking for people to organize events in other cities too. www.ecotuesday.com

Molly, that is great! I am so glad to hear these events are hopping. I am in the south bay so maybe I will make it to one of SF's events one of these days! In the meantime, thanks for the tip on Eco Tuesday. I'm going to check it out. Maybe I can convince them to let me host an event in the south bay.

Thanks for the info. I looked up greendrinks.org in the Phoenix area and found something great. We have an Eco-Building that is a showroom for green products, services and resources. What a great idea.
