Make Your Own Air Fresheners: Green Tips

I have to admit I’ve never been one for air fresheners.  I’m too cheap (and too chemical-averse) to bother.  But the holidays always inspire me…all those cookies baking in the kitchen, the hot apple cider simmering on the range. A moment later I think to myself, “Hey! i can do that!”. I can have sweet smelling rooms without having to buy chemicals designed to hide odors.

Here’s an easy, environmentally-friendly tip: put a half teaspoon of cinnamon in your coffee pot, then run a pot of water through the system.  You won’t brew a very good cup of joe, but your house will be filled with the sweet scent of cinnamon. Yum.

If you’re not into the bakery scents, how about the clean smell of eucalyptus?  Combine the following in a spray bottle: 1/4 cup baking soda, 4 cups warm water, 2 teaspoons ammonia. To that mixture add 1 teaspoon eucalyptus oil. Shake and spray!
