Clever uses for packaging

When JCPenney announced their new Simply Green Collection, we were excited. As we perused pieces from the new collection, we were further excited by green tips from JCPenney's eco-expert, Danny Seo.

Seo goes a step beyond simply supporting sustainable products, he also looks to packaging for storage solutions and finds clever ways to use environmentally-friendly products.

Take this great tip: We already know bamboo is a great fiber to use for clothing and the like. It's soft and as one of the fastest-growing fibers on Earth, it's sustainable. In fact, if you're in the market for new bed sheets, these bamboo blend sheets from JCPenney are currently half off. But Seo takes it a step further by suggesting the reuse of the plastic packaging from the JCPenney sheet sets. "They are so durable and useful around the house. In the linen hutch I’ve filled this one with extra personal care essentials like shampoo, face wash, moisturizer, lip balm, toothpaste, a toothbrush and some bars of soap. These bags make great toiletries kits for traveling, too."

Genius idea! And a great way to prevent having to put the packaging to waste.

organic sangria Another great tip for the home, Seo uses recycled glass jugs from JCPenney and fills them with organic white and red wines (Bonterra is a good option), adds fresh, organic fruit slices and a touch of sugar. Voila! Organic sangria!! In this picture here, you can see how Seo used whole fruit as bottle stops. You're a clever eco man, Mr. Seo!

I thought there was a downside to bamboo sheets - ?  Is it that they don’t last as long as cotton ones?  I swear I just read about this somewhere, so if anyone has additional info, please do share!

Hey there, Target-Addict. I haven’t come upon any research showing cotton outlasts bamboo.  If you do find it, please share!

P.S. I did come upon this great Treehugger post that details the antimicrobial properties of bamboo sheets (for those who don’t want the bedbugs to bite!): http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/01/bamboo_sheets_k.php
